Preventicare Colic Insurance
The Preventicare program is offered through Pfizer pharmaceutical company. By feeding Strongid C dewormer daily and biannual visits from your vet for vaccines and dental care, you qualify for $5000 in colic insurance. Pfizer now charges a $50 Enrollment Fee for this program, if you meet the qualifications. Colic surgery ranges between $5000-$8000. If you are faced with the decision to do colic surgery on your horse this insurance could be life saving! It has worked for my clients and I would highly suggest enrolling.

There are six minimum requirements when enrolled in the PreventiCare program:
- Annual physical exam
- Annual dental exam, along with any advised treatment
- Appropriate immunizations as recommended by your veterinarian
- Annual nutritional consultation, when your veterinarian can help you review your feed program to decide whether it meets your horse’s needs
- Strongid® C or Strongid® C 2X™ administered daily, year-round purchased from your veterinarian
- Twice-yearly treatments of Quest dewormer
Does your horse qualify? There are three disqualifications to enrollment in PreventiCare:
- Any horse that has had colic surgery
- Any horse that has experienced colic in the last 12 months or has a history of chronic colic
- Any horse under five months, or not fully weaned, or any horse over 20 years of age
Horses that are officially enrolled before age 20 may re-enroll each year until age 24.
Coast Equine, your enrolling veterinarian, is required to administer all components of the program.
